What is the Leadership Circle Profile

A 360° mirror —
with meaning

Developed by Bob Anderson over three decades of research, the Leadership Circle Profile is not just a feedback tool. It's a map of your inner world, connecting your behaviours as a leader to the assumptions and beliefs that drive them.

Most leadership assessments show you what competencies you have or lack. The Leadership Circle Profile goes deeper: it shows you why you lead the way you do and the underlying mindset operating beneath your habits, decisions, and relationships.

Based on Kegan's levels of adult development and Torbert's action logic research, the profile integrates your inner psychology with outer behaviour. It measures 29 dimensions across two broad domains: Creative Leadership and Reactive Tendencies.

The result is a rich, full-colour circular profile, an image of who you are as a leader right now, and direction for where intentional growth will make the most difference.

  • Completed by you and 10–20 people you work with
  • Benchmarked against a global database of 100,000+ leaders
  • Results interpreted during a comprehensive debrief session
  • Foundation for a focused development conversation

Inner circle

Creative Leadership

Behaviours rooted in vision, authenticity, and genuine care, leaders who operate from purpose rather than fear. Strongly correlated with business performance.

Outer ring

Reactive Tendencies

Automatic patterns developed to manage threat and maintain safety. Effective short-term, but limiting when they drive leadership behaviour at scale.

"The profile doesn't judge. It illuminates. And that is what makes it so transformative."

My personal experience

What I discovered
about myself

Christopher McCann

"Going through this diagnostic has been one of the most valuable things I have done — both as a leader and as a person."

Christopher McCann

When I first received my own Leadership Circle Profile, I saw a picture that was at both recognisable and surprising. The behaviours I was most proud of, my relationships, team collaboration, and my education of others all showed up. But so did the shadows they cast.

I saw clearly how much of my leadership was shaped by a desire to be seen as competent, to fit in the group, to stay in control. Not because I lacked confidence, but because those patterns had been so effective for so long that I had stopped questioning them.

The real growth started when I moved from reacting to creating and when my leadership became less about protecting myself and more about serving those around me. That shift changed not just how I led, but how I worked, how I listened, and how I showed up in all of my relationships.

That experience is why I became certified. I know what it feels like to be genuinely seen by this profile and I want to help others experience that same clarity.

  • 01

    From reactive to creative leadership

Discovering how my reactive patterns — compliance and need for control — were silently limiting my impact, and learning to lead from intention instead.

  • 02

    Seeing my blind spots clearly

Understanding the gap between my self-perception and how others experienced me a humbling and enormously liberating discovery.

  • 03

    Building more authentic relationships

Learning to drop the performance of leadership and show up with genuine presence. Building trust rather than projecting authority.

What to expect

The process,
step by step

The Leadership Circle Profile experience is designed to be rigorous and deeply human. Here is what we do together.

01

Discovery conversation

We begin with 45 min conversation to understand your context, your ambitions as a leader, and what you hope to learn about yourself. This shapes how we view your results.

45 min · Online
02

Survey launch

You complete the self-assessment, and we invite 10–20 respondents from your professional circle: peers, colleagues, direct reports, managers, and others who can contribute to your development. All responses are fully anonymous.

2–3 weeks survey window
03

Deep-dive debrief

Once the results are compiled a report is created and we will have a 90 minute debrief session. During this session we will make sense of the results together — reviewing your Creative Capabilities and Reactive Tendencies, how they work together, how your self-assessment compares to your evaluators, and your overall leadership effectiveness.

90 min · Online or in person
04

Development planning

Together we identify one or two shifts that will make the greatest difference in your leadership and map a practical path forward, whether that means ongoing coaching or simply new habits of reflection.

90 min · Follow-up session

What you gain

What leaders take
away from this

A clear picture of your leadership

You will see yourself as others experience you, your strengths, impact, and the patterns that may be holding you back all in a single, integrated view.

Understanding of what drives you

Insight into the beliefs and assumptions that shape your behaviour and what it would mean to lead from a different, more intentional place.

A focused development path

Rather than a long list of things to work on, you leave with one or two high-leverage growth areas with the clarity and motivation to pursue them.

"The leaders who have the greatest impact are not those who do the most — they are those who know themselves the most deeply."
— Bob Anderson, Founder of The Leadership Circle
